It shouldn't come as a massive surprise to many of our customers that we care enormously about our environment.
To continue our efforts in environmental preservation, we're pleased to announce that we are working with Pachama to help reduce our carbon footprint through their offsetting program. Pachama is an organisation that is working with businesses like ours that rely on transportation of products, yet which want to help reduce the impact globally of the emissions from that shipping.
Our carbon offsetting partners have calculated that for every package shipped, roughly one kilogram of carbon is emitted into the atmosphere. This calculation isn’t an exact science, but this estimate is based on factors like average travel distance, travel method, and package weight.
What does this mean? One kilogram of carbon is the equivalent of leaving a 43-watt lightbulb on for a day and a half.
At Pettitt and Boo, we want to take this seriously.
We're partnered with Pachama so that every order shipped from our store is included in our carbon calculations, which we then use to make a carbon offset donation to the Pachama organisation. They use these funds to support incredible work in the Amazon Rainforest; the lungs of our planet.
The Amazon rainforest is one of the most incredible natural wonders on Planet Earth; 20% of the world’s carbon is absorbed by the Amazon alone! Beyond carbon, the Amazon is also home to 10% of the world’s known species (2.5 million insect species alone), and 40,000 plant species.
The macaco de cheiro (squirrel monkey) and the Jaguar are among the thousands of species found in the Amazon Rainforest
